Alliance

Best race:

Horde

Best race:

  • Blood Elf and Tauren are both decent with the former allowing you to potentially remove important buffs like Divine Favor with Arcane Torrent to land a kick and the later giving you War Stomp which can be used to interrupt important casts but neither really stand out as being a super strong race so you can go with either

ALTERNATIVE TALENTS

Zeal and Blade of Wrath have excellent synergy with Law and Order and can be taken together in 2s to increase your consistent damage outside of Avenging Wrath

Repentance can be an excellent pick in some 2s matchups against holy paladins, mistweaver monks, disc priests

Blinding Light is a niche pick that can be used to stop a kill attempt when facing rogue mage in 2s

Unbreakable Spirit should be taken most of the time when playing 3s unless you’re playing a fast paced matchup that requires you to have more mobility

Crusade can be considered if you’re struggling to find a win condition against some comps to increase your pressure while your offensive cooldowns are up

Default

Optional

  • Blessing of Sanctuary should be taken over Law and Order against teams with really important stuns that you need to remove, such as against rogues, druids and paladins
  • Unbound Freedom can be taken as a PvP talent when playing a melee cleave while not using Conflict and Strife as your major essence
  • Vengeance Aura can be a strong pick against destruction warlocks
  • Jurisdiction is a niche pick that can be used in 2s to make resto druid swaps easier and in 3s when playing a melee cleave to make crowd controlling healers easier

Major

Minor

BiS

  1. Versatile – your best overall corruption for both offence and defense
  2. Gushing Wound – excellent choice to increase your damage for very little corruption
  3. Surging Vitality – has a high up time making it a viable choice to increase your durability
  4. Honed Mind – alternate pick to proc one of your best stats
  5. Masterful – alternate pick for the passive increase to one of your favored stats

How does the comp: Destro Warlock and Ret Pally work?

Assuming you mean 3s, you should play super aggressive with crusade + infernals and just try to run over your opponents. You can even consider making swaps to healers when you have cooldowns up and can very quickly burst them down in a stun. Outside of your offensive cooldowns, just play defensive until you have offensive cooldowns again.

Hey mystic, i see alot of good ret player using vers or mastery and the hunter i play with always says haste is for other comps. is haste for all comps or is vers better for ret hunter?

You generally want haste to around 15% and then you can go mastery > versatility for more damage or versatility > mastery for a more defensive build.

Hey Mystic thanks for guide. Got some 2s questions about talent choices in my specific comp. I am playing with irl friend fire mage. We either try to score kill in greater nuke (AW + Combustion) or lesser one (3x fire blast + meteor + hammer of reckoning). I am rotating my talents depending on enemy comp, but I always take WoG. In setup like this should I really go for Selfless Healer? Also: I am mainly picking Fist of Justice / Blinding Light (for BL + Ring of Frost or BL > (Enemy trinket) > HoJ). Will Repentance be really better option against HP, MW and DP?

I would still recommend selfless healer over word of glory just because word of glory really doesn't heal for much. As for repentance, that was in regards to playing with a healer like a disc priest or resto druid. As you're playing with a mage, you shouldn't use repentance.

Playing with a destruction warlock or balance druids seems best right now. I also tried with a survival hunter and mistweaver monk and it was decent.

That was just for Mythic+ I would still use Righteous Verdict in most 2s/3s matchups.

The main issue for ret at the moment is that it's really easy to die, so the added damage reduction from versatility coupled with its increase to your healing helps a lot with survival.

in terms of stat weight %, what do you recommend?

I'd say around 15% haste is a good number and then you can try to get around 10-12% versatility and the rest in mastery. It's obviously a bit tricky to aim for specific stat numbers when trying to also go for high item level gear but around those numbers should be good.
