Best Gear in Season 9: Frost Mage

by Jamage // February 2, 2011

If you are unsure of what gear is obtainable this season, look no further. You may want to read my article on stat priority to learn what stats are best as frost, but in this article I will go over some of the best items available for frost mages starting with the best items and going down.

Trinkets

[Heart of Ignacious] – Easily the top trinket of the season because of its on use haste, not to mention it is basically 435 static spell power. On use trinkets have always been my favorite and with the loss of Time Warp in arena, this trinket is the best you can find.
[Bell of Enraging Resonance] – This is a great trinket because mages need a decent amount of crit for reliable damage and this gives you just that. The downside is that the proc has some RNG to it since you have to crit first, but the amount of spell power it gives is enough to possibly win a match.
[Vicious Gladiator's Badge of Dominance] – If you do not like PvE then don’t worry, the next best trinket is one you can obtain from conquest points. Resilience is better than ever now so the 340 you get is going to good use. Use this trinket with icy veins and you can put out quite a bit more pressure than you normally would.

Other pieces

[Crown of the Twilight Queen] – Having an item level of 379 makes this an easy first place. Most of you will never see this drop, but if you can get your hands on this beauty you’ll be set for a very long time.
[Firelord's Robes] – Teir 11 heroic robes have exactly the stats you want and a lot of it. Just remember you can’t get the 2 piece bonus or you’ll lose your 4 piece pvp.
[Belt of Arcane Storms] – Lastly there is a belt with more lovely haste and crit and includes a yellow socket so you can gem for more!

Final note

Although it may be hard to stop yourself from wearing all the PvE gear you can get your hands on, remember that resilience is an important stat this season so I would recommend wearing 1 trinket and 1 other piece. The rest should be Vicious Gladiator’s Gear with all of the critical strike offpieces and a spell penetration neck or cloak. Also, you shouldn’t break 4 piece pvp gear as it increases frostbolt damage by 5% as well as gives you more intellect. And lastly, try to wear [Vicious Gladiator's Silk Handguards] as it gives you 0.5 seconds off of your blink GCD. Thanks for reading and good luck!

My opinion stays the same. In the end, there are better trinkets and with how easy it is to get honor it is definitely worth it to use that. I have noticed a huge difference in my damage whenever I use that trinket, even gibbed a paladin before he bubbled :)

Even if I reforge the mastery to crit? Also, do you think the engineering goggles are a viable replacement for the Vicious headpiece?

Yeah, engineering goggles are very good. If you are an engineer I suggest getting them.

It isn't that great, mastery isn't as good as the other stats and the proc is low damage. It is better to get the on use one from honor.
