Season 10 Ends - What Are Titles, and How Do I Get Them?
by // November 22, 2011Greetings Skill Capped!
In this article, I will address the frequent questions asked by newer players to PvP. The end of the season brings titles and rewards, but what do they mean?! Or you maybe you already know what they mean, but you aren’t sure if your team is going to qualify for the title you worked hard for. Fear not, I have answers to these questions!
Duelists Are Those People Outside Orgrimmar and Stormwind…Right?
Believe it or not, I thought “Duelist” was a title earned by being really good at dueling when I first saw it back in Season 2. There are a lot of people who still don’t totally understand what a Gladiator even is. They know they are good, but do not know just how good they are. Below, I will clarify just what each title means, and what it earns you.
I would like to quickly note that all titles last for one season only! The only title that is permanent is if you receive Rank 1, but you already know that if you are actually going to get it.
On top of that, 3v3 and 5v5 are the only brackets you can earn Gladiator in, as well as the only bracket you can get the gear with rating requirement on it like Tier 2 weapons. It is currently up for debate whether or not you can earn the lower titles in 2v2. I tested it in season 8 myself, and successfully earned challenger in 2v2 and gladiator in 3v3, and was not on a 5′s team to ensure accuracy. That was a while ago…. So someone should post their own results in the comments with their armory to prove me right or wrong!
- Challenger - You must be in the top 10%-35% of your Battlegroup
- Rival – You must be in the top 3%-10% of your Battlegroup
- Duelist - You must be in the top 0.5%-3% of your Battlegroup
- Gladiator – You must be in the top 0.5%-3% of your Battlegroup
- You also receive an epic flying mount
- [season here] Gladiator – This is the best title in the game. Only one team on each Battlegroup receives it in 3v3, and one in 5v5.
- Ties result in each team tied getting it, unless there was foul play involved. This also varies depending on Blizzard’s ace detectives.
- you receive an epic flying mount
That’s all great, but how do I know what % my team is on my Battlegroup?
- It’s typically poor practice to lead people away from your own website, but this is a great tool. Check out the “Arena Title Calculator” on Arena junkies if you are curious to see where your team lies on the ladder…. then come right back.
Now, on to the fun stuff!
Yo Dog I Heard You Like Rating, So We Put A Rating Inside Your Rating
But seriously, that’s how it works. The other big question is what you have to do yourself, and as a team, to be eligible for these prestigious titles. This is where it gets a bit more complicated, but is quite easy once you know it.
Team Requirements:
- Your team must have a minimum of 20 games played on it
- Your team must have at least one player on it with a minimum of 20% of the total games played on the team.
- If no one has at least 20% of the total games played on a team, the team is deemed inactive and not be eligible for end of season rewards.
Personal Requirements
This is the part that Xhibit designed himself:
- You must have 20% of the total games played on your team
- Example – your team has 200 games played total, you need at least 40
- Your Personal Rating must be within 100 points below your Team Rating.
- Example – your team is 1900, you must be at least 1800.
- Your Personal Rating can be infinitely higher than the team, but you will get the title your Team Rating qualifies for.
Battlegrounds
I did not forget about these guys! However, they are way less exciting at the end of a season. There is only one title rewarded on a seasonal basis, and it is the equivilant of Gladiator in Arenas.
- Hero of the Horde/Alliance
- Your Rated Battleground team must be in the top 0.5% of the BG ladder.
- You will receive the title “Hero of the Horde” or “Hero of the Alliance” depending on your faction for the next season only
- You will receive a ground mount
There is another title system in WoW, but it is permanent. In a nut shell, the higher rated you get, the more titles you unlock.
These are listed as Alliance name/Horde name – Rating
- Private/Scout – 1100
- Corporal/Grunt – 1200
- Sergeant/Sergeant – 1300
- Master Sergeant/Senior Sergeant – 1400
- Sergeant Major/First Sergeant – 1500
- Knight/Stone Guard – 1600
- Knight-Lieutenant/Blood Guard – 1700
- Knight-Captain/Legionnaire – 1800
- Knight-Champion/Centurion – 1900
- Lieutenant Commander/Champion – 2000
- Commander/Lieutenant General – 2100
- Marshall/General – 2200
- Field Marshall/Warlord – 2300
- Grand Marshall/High Warlord – 2400
Update: A wonderful member has just forwarded me a script that allows you to see your current team’s ranking. You can use this combined with the Arenajunkies tool to see whether or not you are in the desired title range!
/script for i=1,3 do t,s,r,_,_,tp,_,_,pp,ra,p=GetArenaTeam(i) pl=(floor((pp/tp*100*10^2)+0.5))/10^2 ChatFrame1:AddMessage(“”..s..”v”..s..”: Team <”..t..”> is rank “..ra..” with “..r..” rating. (“..p..” personal, “..pl..”% played)”) end
Simply copy this and paste it in your chat box.
Thanks for checking the article out, and I hope it cleared some things up for anyone that had questions! If you already knew all this, I bet it was really boring! Until next time Skill-Cappecions.

I said "Simply use this as a macro" for the script. With scripts, you are actually supposed to just open your chat box, and paste them right there. Sorry for the poor wording, but I've updated it!
