Should I Spend Honor on PvP Gear Between Season 10 and 11? - Why It's Bad!

A reminder regarding honor gear and purchases in the s10 to s11 interseason


With 4.3 hitting live I’d like to give you all a heads up and remind you about what new gear will be available to you from different currencies and keep you from making the mistake many of us did in the s9 to s10 transition.

Last season many of us spent our honor on iLvl 365 Vicious gear that were made available to us through honor after the season ended only to have them replaced by half a tier higher iLvl 371 eqvivalents introduced as Season 10 Vicious gear. This very same thing will happen in this interseason, our current 384 Ruthless will be available for purchase through honor points but when season 11 starts they will be replaced by a 390 ilvl counterpart, the season 11 Ruthless gear.

In addition to this the 371 ilvl season 10 Vicious gear will become craftables replacing the current Bloodthirsty patterns and of course the season 11 Cataclysmic Gladiator’s gear will be implemented. Which will leave you with the following gear for the following currencies;

  • Vicious ilvl 377 gear which is crafted
  • Ruthless ilvl 390 gear for honor points
  • Cataclysmic ilvl 403 gear for conquest points

So remember to not buy any gear inbetween the seasons that isnt labelled with season 11 in order to not end up buying gear which will become obsolete when the new season begins!

The only reason you should want to go ahead and spend the honor now, is if you cannot craft or afford to buy the crafted gear, and are in absolutely terrible gear.  This is still a matter of a quality of life decision.  You will be grinding for gear this week, and then grinding later to replace it.

    I went up against a guy that had 2 piece of the cata season 11 gear, when did the season start. I was out of town for a few weeks. How much time did I miss.

    The only situation in which this would work well, is that the honor earned cap to the weapons did not reset, so if you ahve 371 weps, it would be worthwhile to upgrade them to 384s. The 390 weps will not be available until you have ground out 7250 honor in the new season.

    @alantwm I had the exactly same thought and actually did it. It worked! Now, I'm in full set of ilvl390 gears :)

    But those of us with too much HP who want to do something... already I am dying less with the 2 bits of ruthless I have bought in the last week when my CP were transformed into HP.... So if I can upgrade to a bit more ruthless and still have 4k HP waiting for season 11, I'm onto a winner - no?

      Yes, I believe IF you have the time to do it that is still the best option for you. You will eventually be replacing those items you grinded (all of the honor gear will be upgraded next week) during the down week, but if your gear is severely lacking it's definitely worth it if you want to be as strong as possible at the start of the season.

      This, however, comes with the knowledge that you are grinding gear for next season, just to be replaced next season. As Craze pointed out, it's really a decision based on how much extra time you have to deal with honor grinding. Some people have no problem grinding extra, others can't stand it. This was just a warning for those who were not aware that honor gear would be upgraded in 1 week.

      I think this was a very poor system with very little explanation on Blizzard's end.

    I have a way around this although it's a bit tedious. Simply grind the honor gear now, but return it and re-buy it before the 2 hours are up (don't gem or reforge). On Tuesday, sell the old gear back to the vendor and buy the new ilvl 390 one at a time. Tadaaa !

    Disclaimer: This is assuming, you CAN still sell the items back to the vendor on Tuesday. Haven't actually tried this between seasons.
