Affliction Warlock
Affliction Warlock is a dot-based spread pressure spec that excels at controlling the pace of games. You have one goal: keep dots on everyone at all times. Soul Burn into Soul Swap allows instant dot application, while Fears, Shadowfury, and Spell Lock let you dictate the game. Snapshotting buffs like Dark Soul and trinket procs exponentially increases your damage.
Current Meta Position
Strengths
- ✓Massive spread pressure with multi-dotting via Soul Swap
- ✓Excellent control with Fear, Shadowfury, and Spell Lock
- ✓Strong passive tankiness with Soul Link and Glyph of Eternal Resolve
- ✓Snapshotting allows for exponentially higher damage with proper buff management
- ✓Versatile comp options - works with almost any melee, caster, or Hunter
- ✓Dark Soul has two charges with Archimonde's Darkness talent
Weaknesses
- ✗High skill ceiling with snapshotting mechanics
- ✗Pet management is crucial - losing your pet is devastating
- ✗Requires good positioning to avoid being trained
- ✗DoT damage can be dispelled by skilled healers
Key Abilities
Human is the BEST race in the entire game for many DPS. Will to Survive lets you wear two damage trinkets, which is a MASSIVE power spike since trinket procs represent huge burst windows for snapshotting dots.
Orc is definitely your best Horde option. Hardiness is arguably the best racial passive in the game, and Blood Fury acts as a pseudo on-use trinket for snapshotting dots.
Intellect is the most important stat by far as it directly scales all your damage. After Intellect, you MUST reach 6% Hit so your spells don't miss - this is non-negotiable. Then stack as much Haste as possible. Haste adds fluidity to your rotation and is crucial for damage. After Haste, there's a massive dropoff. Mastery is next in line. Critical Strike is by far your least important stat - avoid it where possible.
