Marksmanship Hunter
Marksmanship Hunter is the bursty spec of the Hunter class in MoP, with incredible on-demand damage from Chimera Shot. Combined with Silencing Shot - a ranged interrupt AND blanket silence - MM Hunters excel at punishing casters and setting up devastating cross CC chains.
Current Meta Position
Strengths
- ✓Massive on-demand burst with Chimera Shot and Kill Shot
- ✓Silencing Shot provides both interrupt AND 3-second blanket silence
- ✓A Murder of Crows deals unavoidable damage through LoS
- ✓Excellent CC toolkit with Freezing Trap and Scatter Shot
- ✓Strong counter to Mages and casters
- ✓Works well with bursty specs like Ret Paladins and Rogues
Weaknesses
- ✗Requires good trap execution for CC chains
- ✗Pet management adds complexity
- ✗Can struggle against heavy melee pressure
Key Abilities
Human is the BEST race in the entire game for many DPS. Will to Survive lets you wear two damage trinkets, which is a MASSIVE power spike since trinket procs represent huge burst windows.
Orc is definitely your best Horde option. Hardiness is arguably the best racial passive in the game, and Blood Fury acts as a pseudo on-use trinket.
Agility is your most important stat - it directly impacts ALL of your damage.
Reach the 3% Hit cap and 3% Expertise soft cap first. There is no true Expertise hard cap, but the soft cap is essential.
Critical Strike is the best secondary stat since you want the punchiest damage.
Haste is your next priority, with Mastery being the least valuable stat. Reforge out of Mastery whenever possible.
