Shadow Priest

Shadow Priest

Ranged DPS

Shadow Priest plays like a true hybrid in MoP. You have a TON of responsibilities outside of doing damage, including off-healing, dispelling, gripping - the whole 9 yards. Your real damage comes from pooling Shadow Orbs and spending them on Devouring Plague for damage or Psychic Horror for control. You're pretty much a Sub Rogue in disguise.

Strengths

  • Shadow Orbs enable massive burst with Devouring Plague
  • Psychic Horror provides instant CC for setups
  • Strong off-healing capabilities with Flash Heal and Prayer of Mending
  • Mass Dispel removes immunities like Ice Block and Divine Shield
  • Psyfiend enables cross CC chains
  • Divine Star provides damage on a separate spell school during Shadow lockouts

Weaknesses

  • Very common kill target - expect to be trained
  • Requires excellent awareness to manage hybrid responsibilities
  • Damage relies on pooling resources for burst windows
  • Steep learning curve for maximizing utility
Best Race

Human is the BEST race in the entire game for many DPS. Will to Survive lets you wear two damage trinkets, which is a MASSIVE power spike since trinket procs represent huge burst windows.

Undead is your best Horde option. Will of the Forsaken is more relevant in MoP given the popularity of Warriors and Warlocks. Also, the casting animations are worth it on their own!

Stat Priority
Intellect > Hit (6% cap) > Haste > Critical Strike > Mastery

Intellect is the most important stat by far as it affects our damage the most. But with that in mind, we need to make sure we are getting 6% Hit so our spells don't miss.

Then we will aim to get as much Haste as possible. This will not only add a ton of fluidity to our rotation, but it's also super important for damage.

Up next is Critical Strike, which is important for our burst.

And then we have Mastery, which is our worst secondary stat. Avoid this stat and reforge it away.
