Subtlety Rogue

Subtlety Rogue

Melee DPS

MoP completely revolutionized Subtlety Rogue with the introduction of Subterfuge - a mini Shadow Dance that keeps you in STEALTH. Combined with Nerve Strike, Prey on the Weak, and the broken Burst of Speed, Sub Rogues have a distinct "hit and run" playstyle: getting powerful openers with stuns and then resetting to pillars for restealths.

Strengths

  • Subterfuge provides mini Shadow Dance openers while staying in stealth
  • Nerve Strike reduces enemy damage and healing by 25% after stuns
  • Prey on the Weak gives 10% damage bonus to ALL sources against stunned targets
  • Burst of Speed is a spammable sprint that removes snares for infinite mobility
  • Excellent CC toolkit with Cheap Shot, Kidney Shot, Blind, Sap, and Gouge
  • Strong finisher damage with Eviscerate thanks to Mastery scaling

Weaknesses

  • Requires significant practice to master the restealth playstyle
  • More effort required than other melee specs to get similar results
  • Vulnerable when caught without cooldowns
  • Limited comp options compared to other top melee specs
Best Race

Human is THE best race for Rogues. Will to Survive lets you wear two damage trinkets, which is a massive power spike since Badge + Insignia procs represent huge burst windows.

Orc is your best Horde option. Hardiness is arguably the best passive racial in the game for PvP, reducing stun duration by 15%.

Stat Priority
Agility > Hit (3% cap) > Expertise (3% cap) > Mastery > Critical Strike > Haste

Agility is your most important stat as it directly impacts ALL of your damage. However, you must first reach the 3% Hit cap and 3% Expertise soft cap to ensure your abilities never miss or get dodged/parried.

After caps, Mastery is the best secondary by far since Finishers (Eviscerate) are the majority of your impact damage. Then Critical Strike while avoiding Haste at all costs.
