Windwalker Monk

Windwalker Monk

Melee DPS

Windwalker Monk is a jack of all trades - think of it as a hybrid between an Arms Warrior and a Sub Rogue. You have strong, consistent damage on one side and powerful, punchy burst on the other. This damage comes with tons of control including Paralysis on a 15-second cooldown, plus TWO stuns from Leg Sweep and Fists of Fury.

Strengths

  • Tigereye Brew gives controllable burst - consume 5 or 10 stacks on demand
  • Paralysis has only a 15-second cooldown in MoP
  • Two stuns with Leg Sweep (5 seconds!) and Fists of Fury
  • Storm, Earth, and Fire allows spread pressure and seamless target swaps
  • Rushing Jade Wind provides massive AoE damage during burst windows
  • Touch of Karma reflects damage back to attackers

Weaknesses

  • Steep learning curve with many decisions to optimize
  • Chi management requires practice to maximize burst potential
  • Vulnerable to disarms without Weapon Chain
  • Requires good positioning to maximize Fists of Fury stuns
Best Race

Human is THE best race for Windwalker Monk. Will to Survive lets you wear two damage trinkets, which is a REALLY big deal since trinket procs and effects represent a MASSIVE power spike during burst windows.

Orc is definitely your best Horde option. Hardiness is arguably the best passive racial in the game, offering 15% stun reduction which even STACKS with similar effects. Blood Fury is also a huge power spike, acting as a pseudo on-use trinket.

Stat Priority
Agility > Hit (3% cap) > Expertise (3-6% cap) > Haste (12%+ target) > Critical Strike > Mastery

Agility is the most important stat overall as it directly impacts ALL of your damage.

Then we need to reach the 3% Hit cap and 3% Expertise soft cap. Technically 6% is the softcap for parry, but this can be hard to achieve early - aim for at least 3%.

For secondaries, prioritize Haste to at least 12%. Haste increases energy regeneration, reduces Fists of Fury channel time, gives faster Rushing Jade Wind ticks, and increases auto attack speed which is a big part of our damage.

Then get Crit for lethal burst windows. Crits are not nerfed in MoP like they are in retail. Finally, avoid Mastery and reforge it away where possible.
