Frost Mage Stat Priority

Versatility (25%) > Haste > Mastery > Critical Strike

Our main focus for our stats should be on Versatility. You want to focus on getting as much of it as you can, up to at least 25%. This will happen automatically through PvP gearing, as most of the items you will end up using will have Versatility on them.

Beyond this stat, Haste will be our second most important stat. Haste is great since it makes our casts quicker and reduces the global cooldown. This allows us to land Crowd Control easier at the right times, assisting us with creating pressure or to peel for your team more often.

This secondary stat also helps us cast our Frostfire Bolt a lot faster during our Icy Veins windows, allowing us to cleave quickly. Not to mention, having more of this stat makes it easier to generate more Fingers of Frost stacks thanks to Flash Freeze, and even Brain Freeze if we select it in our Frost tree, making our rotation feel more fluid.

After that, you’ll be focusing on Mastery. This will empower the amount of damage you deal from your Icicles or Glacial Spike, depending on which build you are playing as.

Followed by Mastery, Critical Strike is your least favored stat and should be avoided. This serves no benefit on our gear, since we already have Shatter that make up for this stat.

We highly recommend picking up the Astral Gladiator’s Staff first as you’ll acquire this weapon for free once you obtain 2500 conquest.

Overall though, there is no concise winner in terms of which weapon is better, and is based on what you prefer the most. If you want to min-max your secondary stats, you can create crafted weapons later in the season when conquest is uncapped.

Trinkets

Trinket 1: Astral Gladiator’s Insignia of Alacrity
Trinket 2: Astral Gladiator’s Medallion

When it comes to trinkets, we are pairing up with Astral Gladiator’s Insignia of Alacrity in almost every game. This adds some static Haste that will benefit us in our stat priority, while occasionally proccing for a considerable boost to our primary stat.

You will then need an Astral Gladiator’s Medallion to break out of CC every 2 minutes.

As an alternative, you can choose Astral Gladiator’s Emblem instead of Insignia for some temporary HP boost in cases where you are guaranteed to be the kill target.

A neat trick you can do with this ability is by using it before activating Alter Time, and cancel Astral Gladiator’s Emblem before pressing Alter Time again. This essentially treats your Emblem as a heal you can apply to yourself if done properly. Not to mention, our Emblem trinket can more promising into setup based matchups, such as RMP or Jungle Cleave to help us surviving during their setups.

Best Frost Mage Embellishments

Item 1: Elemental Focusing Lens on any crafted slot.
Item 2: Elemental Focusing Lens on any crafted slot.

The Elemental Focusing Lens embellishment provides us with the most consistent throughput, and is only effective as long as you have at least 1 gem equipped.

This embellishment occasionally deals damage from a specific school of magic based on the gem you equip. Keep in mind that the damage from this embellishment can’t be buffed by cooldowns, talents, or any damage bonuses from school types.

Best Frost Mage Gems

Core Gems: Cognitive Bloodstone + Quick Sapphire
Alternative Gem: Versatile Emerald

Core Fiber: Pure Dexterous Fiber
Alternative Fiber: Pure Chronomantic Fiber

In The War Within, you will use a Vicious Jeweler’s Setting to add sockets to your Helmet, Neck, Bracers, Belt and Rings. Two sockets can be added to the Neck and Rings.

As Versatility and Haste are your best secondary stats, you will want to both gem and enchant it wherever possible. For your new unique PvP-specific gem, we highly recommend the Cognitive Bloodstone, which acts almost identical to the Precognition Embellishment from Dragonflight.

For all gem slots, we will use Quick Sapphire. This will provide us a hefty amount of Versatility, while weaving in some Haste to generate Icicles a bit faster than before. You could also use Versatile Emerald for more Haste based on your own preference.

As of now, we notice a majority of players currently using the new Reshii Wraps cloak introduced from the 11.2.0 patch. This new piece of gear requires a fiber socket to which we suggest opting for the Pure Dexterous Fiber to make us feel less squishy. Alternatively, you can opt for Pure Chronomantic Fiber to best suit our stat priority.
