Preservation Evoker Talents Overview

With the revamp to the talent system in Dragonflight, we generally have certain core talents that shape the spec, and optional talents. Some optional ones are situational, depend on the comp you are playing or are simply down to personal preference. Our core build is good for a wide array of situations. It is meant to be multi-purpose, giving you the most flexibility.

Evoker Class Talents

You should also avoid playing without Quell. One of the main weaknesses of Evokers is getting CC-ed, so having a ranged interrupt is vital.

The same is true for Sleep Walk. This is one of your few CC abilities, which is important for any form of team play, even in Solo Shuffle.

Tip the Scales is another must pick, since it is one of your main cooldowns. It makes your next empowered spell instant, giving it both offensive and defensive uses. A huge part of Evoker’s healing is supplementing your standard healing rotation with cooldowns, and Tip the Scales is crucial for this.

Rescue is the Evoker equivalent of Leap of Faith, and with Twin Guardian – it even applies a shield to you and the player you use it on. There is a lot more to say about this talent and some of its unique properties that we cover in our healing Master in Minutes guide.

One or more of these talents can be dropped to pick up some strong alternatives, including the Time Spiral endcap ability. This talent works best with Mages, Warlocks, and Shamans since it resets their biggest mobility cooldowns.

You could also budget a point into Foci of Life in matchups where you are worried about getting pressured, since it dramatically ramps up your self-healing.

You now play Terror of the Skies in nearly all matchups. This will add a stun effect to your Deep Breath, which is great when playing comps that set up kills with AoE lockdown. Having the ability to contribute to kills as a healer is really important, and this AoE stun is a powerful option.

Preservation Spec Talents

In the Preservation spec tree, we have some choice nodes worth discussing. As for the Emerald Communion talents, we go for Dreamwalker, which allows us to cast it while moving. Emerald Communion is already strong enough so that added HP from the other option might be a bit of an overkill in some matchups. Dreamwalker could also be swapped for Rush of Vitality when you get more comfortable on evoker as you can still hover and use communion if you need to cast it while moving. In many cases, you are using Emerald Communion while in CC this negates the benefits of Dreamwalker.

Golden Hour is definitely one of the talents you don’t want to play without. It adds a potentially large burst heal to Reversion, which is one of our primary HoT effects. This burst heal scales depending on damage taken, which is quite useful into damage spikes. This is also why Punctuality is a must-pick talent. It adds an additional charge to Reversion, giving more value to Golden Hour.

The only capstone talent that is 100% necessary is Stasis. It is without a doubt one of the highest skill cap abilities. It copies three helpful spells and stores them for later use. On second press, the stored abilities will be unleashed in one global. It is a very complicated ability and feels like cheating when used properly. We have a Master in Minutes guide going over how to get the most out of it.

For flexible talents, you can drop Spiritual Clarity, Just in Time, Flowstate, and 1 point in Renewing Breath to pick up Life Giver’s Flame and Lifeforce Mender for additional damage with Living Flame.

Preservation Evoker PvP Talents

Out of all the options in your PvP talents, there are two that you will pick almost every game. The first one is Dream Projection. It is a very unique ability, which acts as a proactive defensive cooldown. It will allow you to fly a drone into your teammates, burst healing them and then leaving a huge HoT once it expires. This should only be dropped if the enemy team has a high number of purges i.e. two or more.

Nullifying Shroud is another strong choice. It is essentially Holy Ward on steroids, providing immunity to 3 CC effects in a row. This should be played in all matchups especially given the change to Kleptomania for Arcane Mage.

Obsidian Mettle is a relatively neutral pick. It simply gives you Aura Mastery with your Obsidian Scales, which you have two charges of thanks to Obsidian Bulwark.

Dream Catcher is a new talent added in 10.1 that allows the Evoker to cast sleepwalk without incurring the normal 15 second cooldown. This is a good option if the only disorient or fear affect is on a long CD such as Intimidating Shout.

Divide and Conquer is another talent added in 10.1 that adds an Ice Wall effect to Deep Breath. It blocks line of sight for both enemies and allies and when enemies pass through the wall they take damage. This is great when playing a melee cleave as you do not need to worry about the line of sight for allies.

Time Stop is another neutral option. It is an instant-cast Cyclone that you can only use on friendly targets, including yourself. You could use it to stop massive damage waves on your teammates or even on yourself to avoid CC. It is one of those cooldowns that have a fairly balanced risk to reward ratio.

Scouring Flame is a more aggressive option, giving you the ability to AoE dispel multiple enemy buffs. This is particularly strong against Resto Druids and other Preservation Evokers to remove their HoTs.

Unburdened Flight is more situationally useful. It is strong into any team with multiple snares, especially when you could be the kill target.

If you really want to experiment, you could try Chrono Loop. This allows you to lock enemy players at low HP and counteract enemy healing. But this is a risky pick, so your mileage may vary.

Swoop Up is another situational PvP talent that could be useful in arenas, but might be more valuable in RBGs. It allows you to grip an enemy player, making it an interesting choice to set up knocks on certain maps.
