Beast Mastery Hunter Talents Overview

Since the talent system received a huge revamp going into Dragonflight, we will cover both the class and the spec tree. They both have some mandatory and some optional talents. Those will depend on the situation and the comp you are playing. The Core talents will be the ones you pick almost all the time either because they are that good on their own, or simply better than all other options.

Hunter Class Talents

Starting off with the core of our build, we have Survival of the Fittest. It gives us a new defensive option, which is much needed after the loss of Craven Strategem. In the same row, we go for Entrapment, which is a great addition to the kit. It attaches a 4-second AoE root to Tar Trap, which is great for added CC and kiting, which are some of the main focuses of this build.

Thanks to Steel Trap being universal for all specs, we now have an additional level of complexity and control over the game.

What we want to do now is reach the bottom left part of the tree to get Improved Kill Command and Alpha Predator. These are the important talents, increasing the damage of Kill Command by a lot and giving us an additional charge.

You may wonder why we are skipping Stampede, since it was the key part of the spec in previous expansions. The reason for this is that it’s not that great in arena, especially when compared to Death Chakram, which gives us great upfront damage on a low cooldown. Most importantly, it buffs the damage of our pets as well, which is amazing for Kill Command and central to our build.

The only true variation in the class tree is the choice between Scatter Shot and Binding Shot. Scatter is great for 3v3, because it gives you additional cross CC and lockdown capabilities. But its value dwindles in certain 2v2 matchups. You may want to consider swapping to Binding Shot, which is now an AoE stun, when you need another tool for kiting or securing kills.

Beast Mastery Spec Talents

Bloodshed is a new offensive CD on a 1-minute cooldown. It puts a strong bleed on your target that will increase pet damage by 15%.

While not the most interesting talents, we still pick up both Bestial Wrath for that huge increase to our own and pet’s damage, and Scent of Blood to get those free charges of Barbed Shot whenever we use it. This makes maintaining three stacks a lot easier. This is even more important now with the addition of Brutal Companion.

Your the build we have above includes 1 flexible point which you can spend on Wild Call for a passive, but RNG damage increase, or Dire Beast for more precise control over your rotation, at the cost of being an extra button to press. Otherwise, you could this remaining point into Brutal Companion, which theoretically provides the highest DPS increase of all three talents, but requires high uptime.

Beast Mastery Hunter PvP Talents

One of the strongest PvP talents in your arsenal is Survival Tactics. This basically makes Feign Death go from useless to one of the strongest defensive buttons in PvP. There are just way too many potential uses for this talent to go over all of them here, so we have a Master in Minutes guide to go over it in more detail.

The last two PvP slots are entirely situational, and you will be switching talents depending on matchups. Kindred Beasts can provide a lot of value reducing the cooldown of Master’s Call and Fortitude of the Bear, while also giving them additional effects. It also allows a weaker version Primal Rage to be used in arena.

Chimaeral Sting is another great option against any caster for the Spider Venom silence effect, or if you want to play a shorter matchup where you won’t get the CDR value from Kindred Beasts.

Diamond Ice is great for niche matchups, since it makes your trap undispellable. It can be good when your kill target is a healer and you want to CC the DPS, or even when you want to trap targets low for added pressure.

The Beast Within can be a niche pick against Warlocks to counter them constantly fearing your pet on your setup.

Tranquilizing Darts is good against Resto Druid teams specifically. Whenever you dispel or kick, it will reduce the duration of beneficial magic effects by four seconds, which includes their HoTs.

Dire Beast: Basilisk can be a good option when playing with a Restoration Shaman and using it while you are in Earthen as you will be standing in a single location. This is situationally useful but should never be played into a caster as they can easily kite the Basilisk.
