Subtlety Rogue Talents Overview

Since the talent system received a huge revamp going into Dragonflight, we will cover both the class and the spec tree. They both have some mandatory and some optional talents. Those will depend on the situation and the comp you are playing. The Core talents will be the ones you pick almost all the time either because they are that good on their own, or simply better than all other options.

Rogue Class Talents

There are several talents that we need to get at the bottom of the tree to make Subtlety work in arena. These include Shadow Dance, as by taking this talent, we will get 2 charges of the ability.

One important pick we have to make is between Elusiveness and Cheat Death. For most matchups, Cheat Death will be the standard pick due to the high burst.

Subtlety Spec Talents

There are some talents that you never really want to play without. The first one is Relentless Strikes. Since a lot of our rotation is built around finishers, we want to make our gameplay as fluid as possible.

Below, we will always want Shadow Blades. This is simply another offensive cooldown we can combine with Shadow Dance in order to give us more burst damage.

Further down, we have Deepening Shadows. This provides us with cooldown reduction on Shadow Dance, giving us more burst windows.

Shadowed Finishers gives even more damage to our Eviscerate.

Finally, Dark Shadow provides an additional damage modifier during Shadow Dance.

We will also want to pick up Without a Trace for an additional charge of Vanish.

For capstone talents, we have Danse Macabre to maximize our burst damage and kill potential in setups.

Subtlety Rogue PvP Talents

For PvP talents, we have two mandatory picks: Shadowy Duel and Thief’s Bargain. Since a lot of our damage is centered around lockdown, we need both of these abilities to force PvP trinkets and punish enemy players once trinkets have been used.

Our third slot is situational.

Veil of Midnight is a new addition in 10.1. This makes cloak act as a second evasion and removes all harmful physical effects such as bleeds, disarms, etc. You are also immune to all physical effects for 1.5 seconds after activation effectively making it a BoP. Any class with strong physical cooldowns such as Warrior and Feral.

Smoke Bomb is a solid pick into double caster or an RMP mirror where you do not need the new physical damage immunity from cloak.

Dismantle can be used into a team that has a physical DPS that can be disarmed such as when fighting double melee and need to peel goes.
