“Fistweaver” Talents Overview

Since the talent system received a huge revamp going into Dragonflight, we will cover both the class and the spec tree. They both have some mandatory and some optional talents. Below is the current “Fistweaving” build. Later on in this guide we will provide a build for the more standard “caster” variation of Mistweaver Monk.

“Fistweaving” Monk Class Talents

For the Fistweaving build, there isn’t much flexibility on either tree. In any case, there are some key talents you should never play without. These include Paralysis for an additional CC, and Spear Hand Strike directly below it, which gives you an interrupt as a healer. These abilities go hand in hand with some key mobility options on the tree. As a Fistweaver, having high uptime is key, which means you should never play without Tiger’s Lust.

There is a mobility split decision talent with Celerity and Chi Torpedo. Since we play more like a true melee class, we opt for Celerity since it provides more precise and more consistent uptime.

The Monk tree also includes multiple major defensive cooldowns, including Diffuse Magic, Dampen Harm, and Fortifying Brew.

“Fistweaving” Mistweaver Spec Talents

The entire core of Fistweaving is built around one talent, Ancient Teachings. You CANNOT play Fistweaver without this talent. In order to get full benefit from Ancient Teachings, you will also need the Faeline Stomp ability further down the tree so that you have an additional way to activate your Fistweaving healing.

Just like the Monk tree, there is virtually no flexibility with point distribution when you play Fistweaver.

“Caster” Talents Overview

The “caster” build includes key variations on both trees. On the Monk tree, we path all the way down to Summon Jade Serpent Statue because Soothing Mist is an integral part of our healing. Once again, there isn’t much flexibility on either tree. Generally speaking, swapping between caster and Fistweaving builds IS your primary decision.

Fistweaver is preferred in melee cleave mirrors for instance, because you have the ability to directly assist your team with damage while always being in a convenient position to heal them. This can also be good into pet classes such as Demonology Warlock, Unholy Death Knight, and Beast Mastery Hunter.

Caster Mistweaver, on the other hand, can work better when playing with two ranged DPS, especially wizards, since you have more incentive to stay back and allow them to zone the enemy team away from you.

The only talents you can consider changing to Revival over Restoral as a caster into elemental shamans and affliction warlocks.

Mistweaver Monk PvP Talents

As both Fistweaving and caster based builds, you will always hardlock Peaceweaver. Not only is this strong for its CD reduction, but the 2 second spell immunity is quite strong into nearly every single comp. There are very few situations where you are dealing with pure physical damage. Ret Paladins, for instance, deal high amounts of spell damage, which can be immuned with Peaceweaver.

Eminence, which allows you to port while stunned. As a caster Monk, this talent is still strong, but if you are playing passively in a matchup and don’t expect to be the kill target, then you can play without this. For caster if you do not need this talent then Zen Spheres is a great option as it provides passive healing and damage increase for your team. Fistweaver can use Zen Spheres in most matchups where you are playing with a Ret Paladin or Augmentation Evoker.

As a Fistweaver, Fae Accord is another softlocked talent that was added in 10.1. This reduces the cooldown of Faeline Stomp allowing you to move throughout the match rather than being grounded to your Faeline Stomp.

From here there are multiple situational PvP talents. For both specs, you can chose to play Grapple Weapon in any matchup where Disarms have value.

Eminence, which allows you to port while stunned. As a Fistweaver, this is sometimes a hardlocked choice since you are more often the kill target. As a caster Monk, this talent is still strong, but if you are playing passively in a matchup and don’t expect to be the kill target, then you can play without this.

As a caster Monk, Zen Focus Tea is quite strong into any team with multiple ranged interrupts and there are limited stuns or you do not expect to be the kill target. This should be swapped with Eminence depending on the matchup specifically teams without a ranged kick. Similarly, Dome of Mist is good as a caster into teams that spam purge, since it offers you dispel protection.
