Devastation Evoker Talents Overview

With the revamp to the talent system in Dragonflight, we generally have certain core talents that shape the spec, and optional talents. Some optional ones are situational, depend on the comp you are playing or are simply down to personal preference. Our core build is good for a wide array of situations. It is meant to be multi-purpose, giving you the most flexibility.

Evoker Class Talents

At the top of the tree, we have a choice between a shorter cooldown on Wing Buffet and Tail Swipe. Both of these can be quite useful in PvP, but we went for Wing Buffet. Since it is a knockback, it is generally more valuable in arena, especially on maps with a Z-axis. As strong as reduced CDR on our racial is nice, we may want to drop it in favor of our next talent.

We are picking up Time Spiral as the core talent. This will give us some much needed mobility, while also providing an additional way to support our team.

You should always play with Scarlet Adaptation. This rewards you for supporting your team with off-healing and is one of the core parts for making your oneshot work.

Tip the Scales is another must pick. It is one of the only offensive cooldowns you have, and it makes your burst damage much stronger and more unpredictable.

You will also always want to play with both Rescue and Twin Guardian. This combination of talents gives you enormous utility inside of the arena. We dedicated an entire Master in Minutes guide to the interaction between these two abilities.

At the top, you can choose between Innate Magic and Enkindled, which essentially come down to faster Essence regeneration and better Living Flame damage. Innate Magic will be better for sustained damage, while Enkindled is better for burst.

We also have the choice between Tailwind and Walloping Blow. Even though Tailwind might seem appealing for the extra movement speed during Hover, the simple act of double-jumping seems to passively increase movement speed anyway. This makes the extra knockback length and daze seem much more consistent overall.

Even though you might not have many points to budget, you may want to spec into Recall, especially when playing with Onyx Legacy in the Devastation tree

Lastly, you could put some points into the right side of the tree to pick up Ancient Flame. This will allow you to hardcast Living Flame for damage, which is a 2.5-second cast otherwise. The only problem with picking this talent is that it requires you to take points away from other critical areas of the tree, making it a little too greedy.

Devastation Spec Talents

Some of the core talents in the spec tree are intended to make your oneshot more lethal. An example of this is Engulfing Blaze. This adds a massive damage increase to Living Flame at the cost of an increased cast speed. With your core build, you won’t be hardcasting Living Flame anyway, using it with instant procs instead.

That is due to Burnout further down on the tree, which causes your Red Sequence of spells to sometimes proc instant Living Flames. Burnout also has some interesting properties, which we cover in our Master in Minutes guide.

Another passive you don’t want to pass up is Spellweaver’s Dominance. This simply gives you more crit damage, which is needed for bigger oneshots.

We also want to get some more Deep Breath damage with Lay Waste at the top of the tree. This pairs well with Onyx Legacy towards the end that reduces its cooldown. Overall, this will give us more mobility and more consistent setups.

In addition, we will pick up Eternity’s Span in the middle for some more cleave damage.

Outside of your burst talents, we also have a reduced CD on interrupt as part of the core with Imposing Presence. This is just a crucial part of arena, making this talent 100% necessary.

And then we get Hoarded Power. It will help with our consistent damage throughout the game, allowing us to channel more Disintegrate.

Onyx Legacy is a great pickup against melee for the added mobility and setup potential. Especially when you take into account its synergy with Recall in the class tree.

Devastation Evoker PvP Talents

Your only core PvP talent as Devastation is going to be Scouring Flame. It adds a dispel mechanic to your Fire Breath. Since you will be casting this spell a lot, this is free added pressure, especially against specs that require a lot of buffs, like Resto Druids or Mages.

From there you have a few options. Obsidian Mettle is a relatively neutral pick. It simply gives you Aura Mastery with your Obsidian Scales, which you have two charges of thanks to Obsidian Bulwark.

Nullifying Shroud is another neutral choice. It is essentially Holy Ward on steroids, providing immunity to 3 CC effects in a row. The only downside is that it is susceptible to Dispel and even worse – Spellsteal. This is why you may want to drop it against Arcane Mages.

Time Stop is your final neutral pick. It is an instant-cast Cyclone that you can only use on friendly targets, including yourself. You could use it to stop massive damage waves on your teammates or even on your healer to avoid CC. It is one of those cooldowns that have a fairly balanced risk to reward ratio.

As for situational talents, Unburdened Flight is amazing against melee cleaves. It is especially true when you think you could be a kill target, since it gives you added mobility with Hover.

Divide and Conquer is another great choice against melee. It is good in general, adding an Ice Wall type mechanic into your Deep Breath. It is exceptionally good when playing with Onyx Legacy, since it effectively doubles its value.

Finally, if you really want to experiment, you could try Chrono Loop. This allows you to lock enemy players at low HP and counteract enemy healing. But this is a risky pick, so your mileage may vary.
