Party Macros

As a Retribution Paladin, most of your macros will be based around helping and supporting your team. Your toolkit is full of incredible utility that needs to be used on the right target at the right time. In order to make it easier, you should make party1 and party2 macros, or use the names of your teammates. This way, you won’t need to change a target every time you want to cast a spell on an ally. If you go with player names, make sure you change the names in the macro every time you change teammates. These macros are incredibly useful for most of your utility, which includes Blessing of Protection, Blessing of Spellwarding, Blessing of Sanctuary, Blessing of Freedom, Blessing of Sacrifice, Cleanse Toxins, Word of Glory, Flash of Light and Lay on Hands.

Party1 will always be the top player on your party frames, and party2 will be right below, regardless of your own position. So make sure you add these macros to your arsenal by using this template and replacing the spell names with the ones you want to have.

Focus and Arena Macros

These macros follow the same idea as party macros and eliminate the need to manually change targets every time. They are very useful for CC and interrupts. While focus macros are easier to get used to and could be sufficient in most cases, arena macros are a lot more versatile as they allow you to interact with literally any opponent in the game at any point. The downside of making arena macros is the number of binds you will have to allocate. Not to mention, they are a lot more difficult to get used to. You could start by using focus macros for most of your abilities and arena macros for some of the most important CC, and expand the more you get used to it. As a Paladin, the spells that benefit the most from such macros are Hammer of Justice, Rebuke, Hand of Hindrance and Repentance.

Adding Trinkets to Macros

If you are using Gladiator’s Badge of Ferocity, it lines up perfectly with a number of your offensive cooldowns. It is also off GCD, making it a perfect addition to a few offensive macros. Quite often you start a combo with Avenging Wrath. In order to make your burst sequence feel smoother and eliminate the need to press the extra button, you can add the Badge to these abilities. This way, you will use the trinket during your burst sequence no matter the ability you start it with, without even needing to manually press it.

You can also use that for Gladiator’s Emblem and Shield of Vengeance for the increased absorb value.

@Cursor and @Player Macros

There are a few abilities that require you to manually select the location you want to case them at. In case of Final Reckoning, you may want to eliminate this extra step to make your burst feel much smoother. If you add “@cursor” condition, the ability will automatically be cast at your cursor’s location, whereas “@player” will cast it at your character’s location. Generally, it is advised not to do this as you can better control the positioning of the ability.

Cancelaura

When playing against Mages, you definitely want to get your hands on cancelaura macros, since they will try to steal some of your very useful utility. This is especially valuable for Blessing of Protection and Blessing of Freedom. Instead of creating a separate bind for it, you could add it to an already existing bind, for example – your mount.
