What’s New for Frost Death Knights in The War Within?
As for Frost Death Knight, we receive a variety of changes located in our talent tree that add some flavor to our rotation and gameplay. Predominantly we have a dramatic change to Empower Rune Weapon which now has 2 charges on a 30 second cooldown. Instead of it providing us with a solid Haste modifier for our burst windows, it now grants us more consistent Shadowfrost damage that scales off our Mastery, as well as another way to generate Killing Machine.
Additionally we can now reduce Empower Rune Weapon‘s cooldown with Frostbound Will, and can now reach some heavy hitting Obliterates, depending on the amount of Killing Machine stacks you have, with Killing Streak.
Now, instead of going too in depth about the class and spec talent trees, it’s important to know the focal point of The War Within; Hero talents. Frost Death Knights receive the option to pick between Rider of the Apocalypse and Deathbringer.
Frost Death Knight Playstyle
After the new 11.2 changes, it’s possible that Frost Death Knight may shift to a heavy-hitting brawler that constantly stays in the fight to build pressure. Empower Rune Weapon now becomes a consistent source of burst damage, to which we can reduce its cooldown and gain more uptime the more Rimes we consume.
You’ll still be wanting to set up every 1 minute with Blinding Sleet to pre-emptively keep our opponents controlled before releasing our massive burst with Pillar of Frost.
