Welcome to Skill Capped’s Guide on How to Gear Your Character for The War Within PvP
This guide will direct you through all the steps necessary to gear your characters when reaching maximum level in The War Within at an efficient pace. Throughout this article, we will provide sections of gear that you can purchase directly after reaching 80, which will provide a consistent balance of stats in order for you to directly enter PvP combat without a complete disadvantage. Then, we will advance into providing Pre-BiS, primarily with honor, and BiS gear from Conquest.
But first, let’s take a look at Skill Capped UI, the best PvP addon you can use in The War Within.

What is PvP item level scaling?
If you are in instanced PvP combat (such as an arena or battleground), if you are dueling, or if you are in World PvP, the item level will scale up, giving you more stats. This is to ensure that PvP gear is best in slot for PvP combat. You need a scaled PvP item level of 707 to queue Solo Shuffle and BG Blitz.
Starter Gear
Congratulations! You reached level 80. Now what should you do? First, it’s important to consider Battleground farming, but you may need some starter gear first before entering this form of PvP combat. This will allow you to not have a complete disadvantage when applying yourself in those fields of interest.
If our beloved Comp Stomp event is available, then we advise avoiding any starter gear and jumping straight into it as you are almost guaranteed to win and are bound to gain a lot of honor.
Step 1: Complete the Campaign
Make sure you have completed the campaign for the Reshii Wraps artifact cloak. This artifact cloak is best in slot for PvP thanks to its unique effects. You can customize its stats with fiber sockets. Click here for a guided tutorial.
Stat | Rare Quality | Epic Quality |
Haste | Chronomantic Fiber | Pure Chronomantic Fiber |
Crit | Precise Fiber | Pure Precise Fiber |
Mastery | Energizing Fiber | Pure Energizing Fiber |
Versatility | Dextrous Fiber | Pure Dextrous Fiber |
Step 2: Purchase Green PvP gear from the AH
This step quite helpful if you are a newly fresh character without any honor to transfer over. If you do have honor you can transfer over, or if the Comp Stomp event is up we advise not purchasing gear from the Auction House. This is because it can be a bit expensive and unnecessary as you’ll more than likely replace these pieces of gear in no time.
Here are the list of AH greens you can purchase for a full set before entering PvP combat:

Pre-BiS Gear
Step 3: Honor Farm
After obtaining your cloak from the Campaign quests, and any starter gear you deem necessary to purchase, you’ll be looking to acquire as much honor as you can to purchase a full set of honor gear. Obtaining a full set of honor gear requires 10,850 Honor Points.

As mentioned before, the best way to farm honor in PvP is during the Comp Stomp Brawl Event or during the Battleground Bonus Event.
In Comp Stomp you are matched against bots in a 15v15 Arathi Basin Map. When Comp Stomp is not active, you can farm Honor through Random Battlegrounds while using a Vicious Flask of the Wrecking Ball for DPS and Vicious Flask of Classical Spirits as a Healer for maximum Honor gains.
If you want a bit more customization with your gear, you can upgrade your current starter gear or create them from fresh via a crafting order with Astral Aspirant’s Heraldries, which can be purchased for 175 Honor each from Velerd or Hotharn in Dornogal.

Stats can be customized using “missives” – which are an optional reagent used in crafting orders that you will need to purchase from the Auction House.
All Obtainable Missives:
Algari Missive of the Fireflash | Critical Strike and Haste |
Algari Missive of the Peerless | Critical Strike and Mastery |
Algari Missive of the Feverflare | Mastery and Haste |
Algari Missive of the Quickblade | Versatility and Critical Strike |
Algari Missive of the Aurora | Versatility and Haste |
Algari Missive of the Harmonious | Versatility and Mastery |
Step 4: Bloody Tokens
To reach 707 item level in PvP faster, you can purchase Epic quality Warmode Gear from Gilderann in Dornogal. These pieces are 720 item level and can be purchased with Bloody Tokens.

Bloody Tokens are awarded for getting honorable kills in World PvP, from completing World Quests with Warmode on, from war chests, and from the weekly Sparks Quests offered by Ruffious in Dornogal. Bloody Tokens have a “cap” that slowly increases each week of the Arena Season.

Prioritize buying Bracers, Belt, and Boots with Bloody Tokens, as we will not be replacing these with Conquest until later in the season.
If you have the gold, always enchant any gear upgrade. We also highly recommend getting enough Honor for at least 1 gem socket if you are a healer or 2 gem sockets as a DPS.
If you aren’t sure how to gem PvP gear, you’ll want to purchase Astral Jeweler’s Setting from Hotharn in Dornogal. This requires 3 Vicious Bloodstones and 5000 Honor. Vicious Bloodstones can be purchased from the Auction House. Otherwise, gemming a single slot of gear will cost 12,500 Honor.
IMPORTANT: to save gold and honor, save your Astral Jeweler’s Setting in order to be used on crafted jewelry (see next step).
Step 5: Craft Jewelry with Embellishments
Winning Random Battlegrounds has a chance to reward Artisan’s Consortium Pamphlet which starts a quest called Rallying All Rapscallions! Turn this quest in by visiting Hotharn in Dornogal. The reward includes 9x Astral Gladiator’s Heraldry.
You should use these 9 Heraldries to craft Epic PvP gear in the neck and ring slots. This will allow you to get Embellishments quickly. You can have a maximum of two Embellishments on your gear for PvP, so make sure to craft 2 of your “free” epics with Embellishments.

For embellishments, these will vary depending on your role and spec. Most DPS use Elemental Focusing Lens and most healers use Energy Redistribution Beacon. See our spec BiS lists at the bottom of this page for more detailed information.
If you’re unsure on what piece of gear you should be gemming, be sure to socket one of the crafted pieces of jewelry you just made first, as you will be using it throughout the entire season. Your first socket should always be one of the unique equipped Bloodstone gems. Casters and Healers should use Cognitive Bloodstone and most Melee DPS should use Enduring Bloodstone.
Once you have completed all the steps above, and have a full set of Honor Gear, Bloody Token bracers, belt, and boots, and then an epic neck, and two rings with Embellishments and a Bloodstone gem, you will be over the 707 item level requirement and will be ready for any ranked arena. Be sure to fully enchant everything if you have the gold!
BiS Gear
Step 5: Farm Conquest & Convert to Tier Set
Finally, after obtaining all Pre-BiS gear for your specialization, your final step will be to get Conquest. This currency will be spent on Conquest gear to convert into tier pieces using the Catalyst system and to purchase Astral Gladiator’s Heraldries to craft epic gear with optimal stats. You will be able to fill up your Conquest bar doing Solo Shuffle, Battleground Blitz, Rated 2v2, 3v3, or even RBGs, allowing you to choose what PvP content suits you the best in order to complete your weekly Conquest cap.

If you want to farm Conquest without having to step into rated arena or BGs, you can take advantage of Crate farming. There are a variety of “Crate Farming” groups in LFG that you can join, and if you are interested in how it works check out this video for more information.
Additionally, unrated instanced PVP rewards some Conquest with the majority in your first win of the day. This is a good way to learn maps and strategies if you are trying to PVP for the first time without the stress of worrying about rating.
As for the first pieces you’ll want to purchase, prioritize any mainslot pieces. These are helmet, shoulders, chest, gloves, and legs. You’ll typically use these pieces in order to benefit off our tierset by using the Catalyst system.
Of course there are some specializations that don’t always use 4-set or even 2-set, which is why we advise you to check out our gearing guides linked at the bottom of this page.
How do I convert Conquest gear into tiersets?
Visit Custodian Khubon in Dornogal and right click on the Catalyst. You can then add any piece of Conquest gear to the window and spend Ethereal Voidsplinters to convert pieces. Splinters are awarded automatically each week and you will even get 1 Splinter for “free” from hitting 1600 rating in any ranked PvP bracket.

IMPORTANT: One common mistake is players using Conquest to purchase a PvP weapon. By earning 2500 Conquest, you will achieve the Astral Weapons of Conquest achievement, which grants you free Astral Gladiator’s Weapon Tokens to spend on Conquest weapons. These are redeemed from Lalandi in Dornogal.
Step 6: Place Crafting Orders Remaining Slots
Once you have crafted your free neck and rings, converted your 4-piece tierset, and have your Conquest weapon, the remainder of your gear should be crafted using Astral Gladiator’s Heraldries and the crafting order system. Why? Because this will allow you to get optimal stats using Algari Missives.

You can even craft Weapons for the weapon-exclusive Ascension Embellishment, which is quite powerful for many specs.

Overall, these will be the best options available in order to progress as a fresh level 80 in The War Within Season 3. If you want to learn more about Skill Capped’s guides, click here.
