What’s New for Windwalker Monks in The War Within?
Windwalker Monks in 11.2 continue to play quite identical to how they did in the previous patch with little to no change structurally in their talents.
However, patch 11.1 introduced a variety of new talents for Windwalker, primarily Slicing Winds. Not only is this spell used for its massive direct damage to all targets hit, but is great for our mobility. We also experience some nerfs to our Crowd Control, with Paralysis now lasting 3 seconds instead of 4, but now has a threshold instead of immediately breaking on damage.
Now, as for the most dramatic change we receive in The War Within, we now receive Hero talents with two of them to pick from; Conduit of the Celestials and Shado-Pan.
For Conduit of the Celestials, this build is more prevalent in shorter games thanks to its hallmark node, Celestial Conduit, giving us some direct upfront damage while channeled and increases its damage output depending on how many targets we hit. This can’t be interrupted while active, and if you choose Absolute Serenity in our PvP talents, you can’t be Crowd Controlled as opposed to our previous patches.
This also comes with our endcap node, Unity Within, making our Celestial Conduit available to press again while channeling it to summon all four August Celestials. You’ll basically want to press Celestial Conduit twice to frontload your burst quicker in setups, but if you choose not to it’ll be used once Celestial Conduit expires.
Shado-Pan on the other hand has the potential to be favored in long-lasting matchups, but as of now is not recommended in competitive play. The hallmark node of this Hero tree is Flurry Strikes, giving you a charge after dealing a certain amount of damage, and then releasing all of those charges after consuming 240 energy. You’ll receive the most benefit out of this by staying on your target, and by doing so you’ll be buffing your Haste and Agility from Veteran’s Eye and Against all Odds, respectively, to make our damage consistently more deadly.
Playstyle for Windwalker Monks
All in all, Windwalker Monks are still reliant on producing the most damage possible to compensate for their lack of Crowd Control offered in their toolkit.
Windwalker Monks still revolve around their Mastery and Hit Combo talent, incentivizing a rotation where you never press the same button twice for a massive damage boost. This makes our rotation feel super fluid, requiring you to always think ahead of what to use next.
