In this section, we will cover the biggest changes to the design of Beast Mastery Hunter in Dragonflight and some of their playstyle implications. Obviously, the main driving force for all adjustments this expansion comes from talents, and we will dive deeper into them a bit later. For now, let’s focus on the bigger picture.

What’s New for Beast Mastery Hunter in Dragonflight?

Overall, Hunters are shaping up to be decently strong going into Dragonflight. Out of the three specs, Beast Mastery seems to be the strongest one. Somehow this spec ends up being the go-to for Hunters at the start of every expansion.

In Shadowlands, the general opinion was that the playstyle of BM Hunters was way too simple. The rotation in Dragonflight is much of the same with one key difference being that now there is a much higher emphasis on pet damage.

Now your damage will revolve around Kill Command, which received numerous new modifiers and damage amps, Bloodshed, which is a new offensive cooldown, and Call of the Wild, which is a very reminiscent of Stampede from MoP.

At its core, BM remains to be entirely designed around Barbed Shot. This ability in Dragonflight has even more interaction with your kit as a whole. Something you may be worried about is the loss of Flayed Shot. While it was definitely nice to have Kill Shot procs, there is no need to worry. This loss has been heavily compensated within standard rotation.

The most noticeable difference comes from the design of the new talent trees, which now add far more complexity and tools to BM as a whole. Talents like Entrapment, Steel Trap and even Diamond Ice leave you feeling like you have a lot more control over the game.

Lastly, while the loss of the widely loved and appreciated legendary Craven Strategem, it’s not as noticeable as you may think. We still have access to Survival Tactics to deal with magic damage and dots. There are also some new additions to make up for it like Survival of the Fittest and Fortitude of the Bear.
