In this section, we will cover the biggest changes to the design of Outlaw Rogue in Dragonflight and some of their playstyle implications. Obviously, the main driving force for all adjustments this expansion comes from talents, and we will dive deeper into them a bit later. For now, let’s focus on the bigger picture.

What’s New for Outlaw Rogue in Dragonflight?

Dragonflight Outlaw takes Shadowlands Outlaw and improves on the formula. In addition to Grappling Hook, you now have access to Shadowstep. This greatly increases your mobility as can cover 65 yds in less than 2 seconds with these abilities. This is great for getting Blinds on the enemy healer or catching up to slippery casters such as Frost Mage.

Ambush is now a core part of the Outlaw Rogue rotation. This is made easier given the fact that Shadow Dance is now a general rogue talent rather than being restricted to the Subtlety spec.

Outlaw Rogue Playstyle in Dragonflight

Coming into Dragonflight, Outlaw Rogue will feel familiar. Outlaw has high levels of control with a shorter blind cooldown than other rogue specs and high consistent damage on par with Assassination Rogue. Outlaw is somewhat in the middle where it does not have the burst of Subtlety nor the sustain of Assassination but at the trade-off of more CC, more utility, more defensive capability, and higher mobility.
