In this section, we will cover the biggest changes to the design of Survival Hunter in Dragonflight and some of their playstyle implications. Obviously, the main driving force for all adjustments this expansion comes from talents, and we will dive deeper into them a bit later. For now, let’s focus on the bigger picture.

What’s New for Survival Hunter in Dragonflight?

Overall, Hunters are shaping up to be decently strong going into Dragonflight. Out of the three specs, Survival seems to be the somewhere in the middle between Beast Mastery and Marksmanship in terms of strength.

In Shadowlands, Survival Hunters had a lot of damage tied into ranged attacks, but in Dragonflight there is more incentive to stay in melee range.

Survival Hunter Playstyle in Dragonflight

At its core, Survival remains to be entirely designed around Mongoose Bite. This ability is one of the main reasons we will be stacking Haste, since quickly generating its stacks is crucial for our damage output.

The most noticeable difference comes from the design of the new talent trees, which now add far more complexity and tools to Hunters as a whole. Talents like Entrapment, Steel Trap and even Diamond Ice leave you feeling like you have a lot more control over the game.

Lastly, while the loss of the widely loved and appreciated legendary Craven Strategem, it’s not as noticeable as you may think. We still have access to Survival Tactics to deal with magic damage and dots. There are also some new additions to make up for it like Survival of the Fittest.
