In this section, we will cover the biggest changes to the design of Restoration Druid in Dragonflight and some of their playstyle implications. Obviously, the main driving force for all adjustments this expansion comes from talents, and we will dive deeper into them a bit later. For now, let’s focus on the bigger picture.

What’s New for Restoration Druid in Dragonflight?

In terms of actual healing, Lifebloom has taken a clear lead as the absolute best heal in our toolkit. Not only does it carry our HPS, but it also comes equipped with some new and recycled tech. It includes granting triple Mastery, a new stacking modifier, the ability to Lifebloom two targets and a 20% healing speed increase for all your HoTs.

On the flip side, though, Nature’s Swiftness isn’t nearly as powerful as it was in Shadowlands. While it still offers great burst healing, it lost some of the modifiers that made it broken.

And for the most part, the rotation will still hinge on Swiftmend, since Verdant Infusion made its way to the Resto tree.

Restoration Druid Playstyle in Dragonflight

Fortunately, the playstyle hasn’t changed too much from Shadowlands, though there could be more room for offensive play. Resto Druid’s healing still requires a lot of maintenance. You are rewarded for carefully managing HoTs and punished for falling behind. This means that playing conservatively is likely the most consistent strategy. This generally involves playing in the back and limiting how much you interact with the enemy team.

Resto also gained some instant burst damage with Starsurge and Thorns still being powerful. However, Wrath and Moonfire feel weaker compared to some of the damage tools that other healers have in their toolkit.

In any case, things are looking quite good for Resto Druid in Dragonflight. With consistently high HPS, unique CC options and new ways of dealing with burst, they seem well-positioned to be strong in 3v3. In 2v2, Druids will likely hold their spot as one of the best healers. Their raw efficiency combined with the ability to easily reset for drinks should continue to carry them in this expansion.

All together, Resto Druid in Dragonflight will have a similar feel to Shadowlands, but with some improvements sprinkled in. The core design of the spec remains largely the same, making the new expansion easy to pick up for returning players.
