In this section, we will cover the biggest changes to the design of Restoration Shaman in Dragonflight and some of their playstyle implications. Obviously, the main driving force for all adjustments this expansion comes from talents, and we will dive deeper into them a bit later. For now, let’s focus on the bigger picture.
What’s New for Restoration Shaman in Dragonflight?
Restoration saw some significant changes going into Dragonflight. First is the addition of two key offensive talents, Lightning Lasso and Stormkeeper, that were previously only available to Elemental Shaman. This allows Restoration Shaman to be much more impactful during kill windows rather than playing a more passive role.
Elemental Orbit was a massive addition that allows the shaman to have two shields on themselves and use Earth Shield on two targets. This allows the use of Water Shield for mana and Earth Shield for healing when getting tunneled by cleaves.
Totemic Recall is a game changer as you can use two Earthern Wall Totems. This ability immediately sets the cooldown of the previously casted totem but could also be used for other key totems such as Grounding Totem. This pairs nicely with Totemic Projection that allows you to move your totems. This means you can place a totem, reset the cooldown, and if your team needs to move you can adjust the position.
Another important addition was Nature’s Swiftness. This was a Shaman ability in previous expansions but was removed. It is now back providing an instant emergency heal that shamans lacked throughout Shadowlands.
Restoration Shaman Playstyle in Dragonflight
Shaman is a very offensive healer. In addition to having strong single target damage with Lava Burst, Shamans have access to Greater Purge which removes two buffs at once. Playing aggressive using Purge, Shear, and Hex on the enemy healer can help your team to land kills.
